Since the very beginning, the HEADLINE.TV solution has been based on an Application Service Provider or ASP model. This means that our partners and customers «rent» our services throughout a period of time, in stead of buying a package once and for all. This results not only in highly reliable services, but also in HEADLINE.TV and its partners doing more to satisfy customers' needs. A digital signage network comprises hardware equipment, software and communications components, to distribute content such as pictures, videos and text to plasma and TV screens, over a secure internet connection. The viewer sees a digital display, such as an LCD or plasma screen. The screen displays content automatically fed from a player, which is a computer controlling one or many screens. The player receives content from a central application over the Internet (Secure Internet connection). The central application controls one or many players in a highly automatic way. Most of the content (pictures, films, text) is stored and run centrally, with all the benefits deriving from a central management of content. Users access the HEADLINE.TV solution through the internet, from their own PCs via a web based interface (web browser). Local EquipmentThere are no set-top boxes or "black boxes" with HEADLINE.TV. The local equipment required can be a standard player (PC) equipped with a standard graphic card. It can also be a highly specific hardware piece, like those used in taxis. The displays can be standard screens in portrait or landscape positions, or more specific ones. Communication componentsThe local players are connected to a central content management database through a secure internet connection, which can be a cable or a wireless connection (see User Stories for examples of wireless applications). The HEADLINE.TV Central ApplicationThe central application is based on a Content Management System (CMS) developed by industry specialists and our local partners. This is stable, solid, state-of-the-art software based on the proven and future-proof technology of Microsoft .NET. The platform is therefore open and non-proprietary. Integrating to other applicationsThere are no limits concerning cooperation and interaction with other systems in use in – for instance - a retail environment, such as queuing, weighing or cash registers, to name a few. HostingThe central application is hosted externally, at a leading hosting provider to guarantee the highest possible level of system availability around the clock. Typically, we host the HEADLINE.TV solution, but models can also be discussed where the customer hosts the HEADLINE.TV solution. Accessing HEADLINE.TV for inputAny device connected to the internet via a web browser can be used to update the systems with pictures, videos and text – manually or automatically. ContentThe TV channels and digital signage systems using HEADLINE.TV today are displaying a wide variety of content. The headlines on display originate in advertising agencies, company headquarters and marketing departments, where people log on to the HEADLINE.TV system, to create or validate content and to monitor activities. In addition, a substantial part of the content is automatically generated from providers of news, weather, traffic and financial information. About the content we often say: The more local and the more updated, the better for the viewer. At HEADLINE.TV we encourage users to create content locally and to update it as often as possible. In this way, the installation carries more impact, generates more interest – and, in many cases, more business!
